Kevin Danso was born on September 19, 1998. He is an Austrian professional footballer who plays the position of center-back for Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur and the Austria national team.
Before joining the senior team, Danso played for Austria's youth teams at different age levels, including under-15 and under-21. He made his first appearance for the Austria senior team in 2017.
Early life
Danso was born in Austria to Ghanaian parents and moved to Milton Keynes, England, when he was six years old.
Club career
Danso joined the Milton Keynes Dons academy when he was 9 years old. Before that, he was a striker in the Reading academy. He stayed with the club until 2014, then moved to FC Augsburg in Germany.
On March 3, 2017, Danso made his first appearance in the Bundesliga for FC Augsburg when he was 18 years and 165 days old. He became the youngest player in the club’s history to play in a league match. One week later, he signed a new four-year contract with the club.
On August 9, 2019, the day after the Premier League transfer window closed, it was announced that Danso signed with Southampton on a one-year loan. The club had the option to buy him at the end of the 2019–20 season.
On August 18, 2020, he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan. He left the club when his contract ended on May 24, 2021.
On August 6, 2021, Danso joined RC Lens in Ligue 1. On March 19, 2022, he scored his first goal for Lens against Clermont. During the 2022–23 season, he played an important role in helping his team finish second in the league and qualify for the Champions League.
On February 2, 2025, Danso joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the rest of the season. The club had the right to buy him permanently at the end of the season. He made his first appearance for Spurs on February 6 in a 4–0 loss to Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-final. He was part of the team that played in the 2025 UEFA Europa League final. He entered the game as a substitute and helped Tottenham win their first trophy in 17 years.
On May 31, 2025, Danso joined Tottenham Hotspur permanently from Lens for £21 million.
Danso started in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup, playing the full match against PSG. Tottenham lost the match on penalties after it ended 2–2. Danso was known for his ability to perform long throw-ins during the game, which received attention from the media.
International career
Danso was allowed to play for Ghana or Austria on international teams. He played for Austria's under-15, under-16, under-17, under-18, and under-19 youth teams.
In May 2017, he was called up for the first time to the senior national team. In June 2024, he was chosen to be part of the Austrian team for the UEFA Euro 2024.
In October 2025, he made history for Austrian football by playing the whole game in a 10–0 win over San Marino, which was Austria's largest victory in international football.
